Clutter

I've never been a fan of clutter. In fact, it makes my head spin. I grew up in a home with plenty of it though. I am one of four and growing up none of us particularly liked to get rid of the 'stuff' that we had accumulated, particularly my dad!

My dad, like many dads, has a large garden shed full to bursting with anything and everything you could ever need in order to fix something. Need to fix anything around the house? In the garden or on the car? My dad is almost certain to have the bits to do it!

There is a great Tik Tok I have seen from 'The McFarlands', with the caption 'Dads when that random "just in case" piece of junk they've refused to throw away for 20+ years finally comes in handy.' This really made me chuckle as it is so like my dad!

My son once had a school project to build a model of a 'Step Pyramid', and in no time at all dad had found all the perfect bits of wood to make it. Another time he fixed a part of my sister's car with some bits of metal he had saved from an old door many years before, and when one of the family's pets has passed away he is quick to pop into the shed and come out with the bits ready to make a beautiful wooden cross to mark the grave!

So although I grew up with plenty of 'stuff' around me, and some of it has certainly been very useful at times, it is not something I enjoy. Like I said it makes my head spin. It makes me feel overwhelmed, unable to focus and at times even anxious. There is science behind feeling like this in cluttered spaces. All the little objects you can see, attract a certain level of attention from your brain, even if not consciously, and pulls that attention away from whatever it is you are trying to focus on. Your brain then has to make extra decisions on what it needs to prioritise, which can be very tiring over time.

I've now got a family of my own, a husband and children, a busy job, pets to take care of and a home to run. I am certainly not complaining about my lot in life, just that often there is so much going on that it can feel overwhelming and the last thing I need is for my brain to be focusing on clutter. However, with a home, a family, pets, (or even just one of these things) there is always....you guessed it... CLUTTER!

Therefore I am always looking for ways to organise my home in the most easy and efficient way possible, and slowly but surely I've managed to find a way to keep my sanity, and I want to help you too. I have created a workbook called 'How to Reset Your Home In 7 days', and I feel as though this would be a useful starting point for anyone wishing for a calmer, less chaotic home, but not a lot of spare time to tackle it.

We all need more personal time, but although modern life is supposed to make that easier to find, it doesn't always work that way. Let's try to make it happen!

Happy organising :) Love, Annika A
